How to Track QR Code Scans: What You Can See

By QRVane · Updated

Only dynamic QR codes can be tracked. The code points to a short link on our server, which records the scan and then sends the visitor on to your destination.

What you can see

Total scans, unique scans, device type, operating system, browser, approximate country and the referring site when available. You can compare codes, and tag them by campaign so UTM parameters are added to your links automatically.

What you can't see

Who the person is. We don't store raw IP addresses: a daily-salted hash is used to count unique scans, and country is looked up from the IP and then discarded. Static codes can't be tracked at all.

Getting useful numbers

Use one code per placement (flyer, window, table) so the totals tell you which placement works. Remember that scan counts include repeat scans by the same person.
