Static vs Dynamic QR Codes: Which One Do You Need?

By QRVane · Updated

A static QR code contains your content (a URL, WiFi login, contact card) inside the pattern itself. Nothing sits between the scanner and your data, so it works offline and can't expire because of a service shutting down. The trade-off: you can't change it after printing.

A dynamic QR code contains a short link to a redirect service, which sends scanners to your real destination. You can edit the destination later and count scans. The trade-off: it only works while the service and your account exist, and the pattern is a little denser.

Use static for anything permanent and personal: WiFi, business cards, a fixed website. Use dynamic when the destination might change or you need scan counts: print campaigns, menus, packaging.
