QR Code Size and Print Guide: Make Codes That Scan

By QRVane · Updated

Rule of thumb: the code should be at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide for close-range scanning, and 10:1 distance to width for signs (a code scanned from 1 m should be about 10 cm).

Keep strong contrast: dark modules on a light background. Inverted (light on dark) codes fail on many scanners. Leave a quiet zone of at least 4 modules around the code; our margin slider does this by default.

Logos cover modules, so raise error correction to Q or H when you add one and keep the logo under about 25% of the width. Always test-scan the final printed proof with more than one phone.
